Community Centres

Brockton has three community centres within its boundaries: the Walkerton Community Centre, Cargill Community Centre and Elmwood Community Centre. The latter two have auditoriums with kitchen and bar facilities, and outside picnic shelters. The Walkerton Community Centre also operates an ice arena from September to March. There baseball playing fields behind the arena, as well three ball diamonds in Chepstow, two in Cargill and one in Elmwood.

 

Camping

A picturesque campground situated on the edge of the Saugeen River in Walkerton, Lobies Park is perfect for families and outdoor enthusiasts. Complete with shady trees, picnic areas, a canoe/kayak launch and wheelchair accessible washrooms, Lobies Park has serviced and unserviced sites available for tents and trailers from May to October.

Camping is also available at Saugeen Riverbank Campground, just east of Walkerton. This seasonal campground is situated on 38 acres along the Saugeen River. They offer canoe, kayak and river tube rentals, as well as trailers, bunkies, golf carts and more.

 

Golfing

There are two golf courses in Brockton, the Walkerton Golf and Curling Club and Whispering Hill Golf Course. The Walkerton club presents a fun and challenging nine-hole course just west of town. Membership owned, the course is 3,100 yards from the back tees and 2,400 yards from the front tees, and features rolling hills, wooded ravines and the Saugeen River.

Located just east of Walkerton, Whispering Hills is the only club in the area where you can play 364 days a year. The outdoor 18-hole course is open from April to November, along with an irons-only target greens practice facility. In the winter, golfers can stay on top of their game using the indoor simulator.

 

Swimming & Tennis

Swimming lessons and public swimming are offered in the outdoor heated pool in Centennial Park in Walkerton. Three lighted tennis courts overlook Walkerton’s the pool, just off James Street.

 

Lawn Bowling

The well-maintained lawn bowling greens in Walkerton and Cargill are popular meeting spots for the area's enthusiastic bowlers.

 

Curling

The Walkerton Golf and Curling Club features four sheets of ice and hosts several bonspiels throughout the winter months. Weekly activities include men’s, ladies, competitive and mixed Leagues, as well as the Little Rocks junior curling program.


Skiing & Snowshoeing

Walkerton’s cross-country ski and snowshoe trails are among the finest in Ontario. The trails have been in existence for many years and have proven themselves very popular with local skiers. Take your family out for a ski and get some exercise and fresh air. The trails are marked with arrows and signs and enough people are using the established routes and loops, making them relatively easy to follow.

 

Snowmobiling

Snowmobile trails in the Brockton region consists of a groomed 50 kilometre double trail through woods and fields, accessible at many points along the trail. The 2000 square foot Saugeen Snowmobile Clubhouse has a full-sized kitchen and heated washrooms. Club volunteers take care of trail grooming and purchase of trail equipment, signage, special winter events and fundraisers. Trail maps and permits are available by calling the club at 519-366-9941.
