Business Improvement Area :: Committees
The Walkerton Business Improvement Area is involved in several committees that help promote and develop trade and commerce within the Walkerton area, and improve the economic, civil and social welfare of the district. For more information on any of these committees, please call 519-881-3413.
Doors Open Walkerton & Area is presented by the Brockton Heritage Committee and Walkerton BIA. It's a bi-annual heritage event that provides free access to historical sites within Brockton on the last Saturday of September.
This committee meets monthly between March and September at the BIA office, every second year only.
BIA representatives also play an active role in various other community groups including the Economic Development Committee and Community Improvement Committee.
The Promotions and Marketing and Media Committee were previously seperate but merged together in 2017. The committee's main focus is to promote Shop Walkerton initiatives. Businesses who participate in the various promotions receive advertising, and through some promotions they even offer their customers a chance to win various prizes. Our Christmas promotion is an exciting program that sees over to $5,000 in prizes given to 13 lucky shoppers!
Programs: Street directories, reusable shopping bags, summer radio promotion, Outdoor Market Days, Holiday Shoppers Guide, Shop Walkerton Christmas Shopping Challenge, Shopper's Night and various other advertising programs including the production of postcards, maps, magnets and more.
In addition, the committee aims to collectively promote and share the BIA’s membership through social media, the internet and other forms of media. They also strive to educate the BIA members about the advantages of using social media and having a strong internet presence to promote and share each other’s businesses.
The Promotions Committee meets the first Wednesday of the month at the BIA office.
The Special Events and Networking committee organizes BIA member events such as networking sessions, educational workshops and social evenings including the annual Holiday Business Party.
The committee meets as needed at the BIA office.
